If you want to get rid of your glasses or contact lenses forever, you have the option of vision correction surgery. LASIK (short for laser in situ keratomileusis) has been used to correct ametropia (deviations from normal vision) for over 30 years. With more than 100 million procedures, it is the most frequently performed surgical procedure in the western world. The methods and technologies as well as the experience of the surgeons have developed rapidly, so that the risks could be greatly reduced.
In LASIK laser surgery, the surgeon uses a cutting instrument to prepare the corneal ridge. A mechanical microkeratome (a very small knife) is used for this. An incision is made in the cornea to form a flap – a very thin layer. Then the flap is turned on its side and the underlying tissue is ablated (cut) with a computer-controlled laser to give the cornea a new shape. This corrects the ametropia. After the treatment is completed, the flap is closed and the healing process begins. The flap retracts by itself and does not need to be sewn.
With increasing age, our own eye lens loses elasticity. This means that after a certain age you will need reading glasses, which is quite normal. Are you 50 years old or older and want to get rid of your reading glasses? This is possible with a lens implant that will give you a lifetime of pleasure. You will be able to see clearly at all distances and not even get a cataract later.
Our ophthalmologists will test your visual acuity, measure your lens and eye pressure. Additional investigations are also carried out. A retina and optic nerve (OCT) scan is done and the cornea (corneal topography) is examined. The ophthalmologist carefully examines the eye using biomicroscopy, which can be supplemented by an examination of eye movements. The results will be discussed with you and, if necessary, supplemented with advice.
Your eyes deserve to see the world clearly
The rapid technological development in recent years has made laser eye surgery an alternative to glasses and contact lenses. Laser eye surgery is the most commonly performed digital refractive surgery procedure. Every year, more and more people undergo laser eye surgery and successfully correct their nearsightedness or farsightedness.
